It is possible to intentionally program the stones and crystals with which to work, if you wish to work with a specific energy.
Intention plays a major role in this work. The crystal or stone is cleaned beforehand and the work begins.
Clear quartz, for example, works with virtually all energies, but when programmed with intention, it makes the crystal or stone even more powerful.
How do I program a stone or crystal?
To program an energy crystal or stone, you need to follow two points:
- Hold the stone or crystal in your dominant hand: close your eyes and imagine your intention. For example, if your intention is prosperity, repeat the affirmation « I am prosperous » while you hold your stone or crystal.
- Imagine your intention: turning towards the light and feel/visualize your intention traveling through your arm, into your hand and into your crystal or stone. Do this for 3 to 5 minutes to start with.
Choosing a crystal or stone
If your crystal collection has grown, how do you know which one to use? There are many ways to choose, including 4 important ones:
- Ask « which crystal do I need? » and listen to the answer: this is one of our favorite methods because sometimes what we think we need for healing is not what we need for healing. Asking removes all preconceived notions.
- Look up the properties and conditions of the crystal (on our lithotherapy lovers’ site, for example): choose the crystal or stone according to its color and system. Use your best knowledge to guide you towards a crystal that’s right for the moment.
- Use muscle testing: place a crystal somewhere on your body. Then, with your dominant hand, stretch out your middle finger and press down on it (still with your dominant hand), resisting with that finger. If you can hold on, you don’t need the crystal right now. If you can’t hold on, this is the crystal to work with.
- Follow your instincts: choose the crystal that calls to you.
7 practical tips for using crystals
There are many ways to use crystals. A common method is to hold them in your hand or place them on your body and meditate, but there are others too.
The 7 tips in this section are practical suggestions for applied use:
- Make crystal or stone elixirs: place clean crystals in a bowl of spring water in the sun for 2 hours. Remove the crystals or stones and drink the water as required. Do not use any of the crystals listed in the paragraph below in this article « crystal and safety/health » and make sure there is no stone or crystal debris, dust or dirt.
- The power of fluorite: tape a piece of fluorite to the bottom of your work chair to help you stay focused.
- Wear carnelian: on days when you need a boost of creativity, carry carnelian in your trouser pocket or wear it as a bracelet.
- Rose quartz for a romantic date: go on a first date wearing a rose quartz pendant, for example, suspended just above your heart area.
- Crystals in your bath: place water-safe crystals in your bath water. Remove them before emptying the tub.
- Need a boost of positive energy? Feeling negative/negative and in need of a positive energy boost? Amber is the perfect crystal to stimulate both happiness and energy. Wear it next to your skin, as a bracelet or ring to give yourself a boost.
- Sprinkle positive energy crystals: smoky quartz or crystals that absorb negative energy, such as black tourmaline, can be sprinkled around the perimeter of your house or apartment to ward off negativity. You can use inexpensive crystal chips or beads for this purpose.

What changes can you expect?
When doing energy work, energy always seeks to align with our highest and greatest good.
Sometimes, the change you think you need isn’t the one that serves you best. Remove any expectation of the outcome and allow what serves you to emerge.
When we set expectations and stick to them, we limit results, because what we imagine is usually smaller than what the universe offers. And sometimes, what serves our highest good doesn’t turn out the way we think it will.
As much as you can, remove « should » and « could » from your vocabulary and accept what the energy brings. Sometimes the changes are subtle and happen over time. Sometimes they’re dramatic and immediate. Sometimes they kick up dust to remove things that don’t serve you before what’s best for you arrives. All are normal when working with crystals. Set your intention, do the work, remove judgment and expectations, and allow. The energy will always ultimately serve your highest good.
Setting your intention
In energy healing work, it’s often said that « intention is everything ».
Your mind is a powerful engine of your reality. Thoughts, words and actions affect what you are able to manifest, and this always begins with intention.
Setting an intention is a powerful aspect of working with crystal healing. Using crystals or stones to help heal specific problems actually has an unspoken intention to bring about the healing of certain aspects of yourself? Defining and giving voice to intention makes it more powerful.
Creating an intention is easy. Simply decide what you want to live or be, then make a statement of intent as if you’ve already achieved it. Using the prosperity example again, state « I am prosperous », rather than « I want to be prosperous ».
The combination of « I » plus the next word is a powerful expression of intent. So if you say « I am prosperous », you create the experience of being, not just wanting. After expressing your intention out loud or in writing, end with gratitude.
